Giulia Togato is an Associate Professor of Translation Studies at California State University Long Beach (CSULB), where she leads the CoHaBiT PsyLing Lab (Cognitive, Behavioral, Bilingualism, Translation). Previously, she held academic roles at Pennsylvania State University and the University of Granada. Her research focuses on bilingualism, translation, and cognitive psychology, emphasizing differences between trained and untrained bilinguals. She teaches courses in psycholinguistics, translation theory, and consecutive interpreting, spanning undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Togato actively collaborates internationally and advises on integrating cognitive research with AI in language services through her role at GLOBO Language Solutions.
Education includes a PhD in Cognitive and Behavioral Neuroscience (University of Granada), dual Master’s degrees in Experimental Psychology and Translation, and a BA in Translation and Intercultural Communication (University of Bologna). She has designed 20 courses and taught 65 sections across three languages, with a focus on interdisciplinary methods.
Research interests highlight cognitive flexibility in interpreting, bilingual expertise, and the neurocognitive basis of translation. Her work appears in journals like Canadian Journal of Experimental Psychology and British Journal of Psychology, with contributions to edited volumes such as The Routledge Handbook of Translation, Interpreting and Bilingualism.
Awarded multiple RSCA Grants from CSULB’s College of Liberal Arts (2022–2026) and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions Seal of Excellence, she also holds prestigious fellowships in cognitive neuroscience and translation studies. Her lab, CoHaBiT PsyLing, explores bilingualism, behavior, and translation through a psycholinguistic lens.
