Giulia Pacini is a Professor of French & Francophone Studies at William & Mary's College of Arts & Sciences. She serves as Program Director of French & Francophone Studies and has held roles such as European Studies Program Director, A&S Coordinator of Summer School/DC Programs, and Fellow in the Center for the Liberal Arts. Holding a PhD from the University of Pennsylvania, her research examines the intersection of environmental history and political discourse in 18th/19th century France, focusing on deforestation, tree symbolism, and arboreal metaphors in the body politic. She also specializes in early modern women's writing and gender discourses.
Her teaching portfolio includes interdisciplinary seminars like 'Fictions of Nature' (in English) and advanced French courses on topics such as the French Revolution, Versailles, and cultural studies. She has received the Arts & Sciences Excellence in Teaching Award.
Research interests span literary plant studies, revolutionary periodicals, and material ecocriticism. Her work bridges traditional political history with emerging environmental humanities frameworks.
