Giulia Casentini

Giulia Casentini is a Lecturer in Social Anthropology at SOAS University of London's Department of Anthropology and Sociology, with additional affiliation to the Department of Development Studies as a Research Associate. She holds a BA in History from Venice 'Cà Foscari', MA in Anthropology and Ethnology from Rome 'La Sapienza', and PhD in Anthropology from the University of Siena.

With over 10 years of fieldwork in West Africa and Italy, her research examines migration systems, border politics, and postcolonial identity formation. Current projects focus on South-South migration corridors in Africa, analyzing connections between migration patterns and inequalities in poverty, income distribution, and gender dynamics.

Her publications demonstrate consistent focus on migration trajectories, return communities, and border construction in African contexts. Recent work examines how migration intersects with Sustainable Development Goals implementation.
