Dr. Giulia Cardillo is an Associate Professor of Italian and Coordinator of the Italian Program at James Madison University. She holds a Ph.D. in Italian Language and Literature from Yale University (2015), an M.A. from the University of Notre Dame, and a BA from the University of Rome La Sapienza. Her research focuses on Early Modern Italian literature, particularly Dante, Boccaccio, and networks of women writers, alongside the relationship between literary and visual arts. She also explores Second Language Acquisition, emphasizing technology’s role in language learning and intercultural competence.
At JMU, she teaches courses like Italian Intermediate 1, Medieval Storytelling, and Italian Theatre. Her publications include analyses of Michelangelo, Tasso, and Luisa Bergalli, and she co-edited a forthcoming volume on pre-modern Italian literary networks. She maintains an adjunct role at Fairfield University and contributes to Yale’s Graduate School of Arts & Sciences as an alumnus.
Her work bridges literary analysis with interdisciplinary approaches, examining themes like prophecy, allegory, and the intersection of art and text. Recent research trends include medieval symbolism and Renaissance cultural exchanges.
