Gitta Windt

Gitta Windt is a doctoral candidate and research associate at the Georg-August-University Göttingen, Department of Medieval and Modern History. Since 2022, she has worked on the DFG-funded project "Hermitism and the Culture of Solitude in the Medieval Empire, 900-1300" while serving as spokesperson for mid-level faculty in her department. Her academic career includes roles as research assistant (2021-2022), student assistant (2020-2021), and formal education at Göttingen University.

Research Specializations: Church and monastic reform movements (10th-12th centuries), voluntary loneliness as medieval social practice, hermitism as religious-cultural phenomenon, and contemporary memory culture of the Middle Ages.

Academic Recognition: Winner of the Göttingen Friends of Ancient Literature Association's award (2022) for her thesis "Can Latin still be saved?! How to make Latin teaching sustainable"
