Professor Girish Lakhwani is affiliated with the University of Sydney as a faculty member in the School of Chemistry under the Faculty of Science. He serves as Associate Professor (2021-24), Director of the Institute of Photonics and Optical Science (2020-22), and Deputy Director of the Sydney Nano Institute (2022-23).
- M.Sc (Integrated), Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, India (2000-05)
- PhD, Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands (2005-09)
His research focuses on optoelectronic properties of nanoscale semiconductor materials for solar energy, optical switches, and polariton lasers. He investigates chirality at nanoscale, strong light-matter interactions, and molecular photophysics in advanced materials. Recent publications highlight chiral metal-organic frameworks, strong coupling in organic solar cells, and ultrasensitive biosensing platforms.
Selected grants include:
- Chiral Metal-Organic Frameworks for Optical Switches (ARC Discovery Project, 2025)
- Strong Light-Matter Coupling for Optical Computing (ARC Future Fellowships, 2024)
- Chiral Nanophotonics (Sydney Nano Institute, 2023)
He has been recognized with the Vice-Chancellor's Award for Outstanding Teaching and Research (2019) and serves on the ARC College of Experts (2024-).
