Giovanni Formilan

Giovanni Formilan is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Edinburgh Business School and serves as Director of MSc Creative Industries at the Edinburgh Futures Institute. He joined Edinburgh in 2020 after working as a research fellow at the University of Warwick on European projects.

Research Focus: His work bridges creative industries and organizational theory, examining:

• Interactions between electronic music, innovation, and identity
• Role of color in market positioning through computational image analysis
• Dynamics of category spanning and signature style in cultural markets
• Application of visual analysis and social network methods to organizational research

Collaborations: Includes partnerships with Daniel Stark, Gianluca Cattani, and Simos Yannopoulos. Methodological expertise spans multivariate regression, social sequence analysis, ethnography, and text analysis.

Additional Roles: Co-organizer of the Creative Industries Conference (CIC) since 2021 and active reviewer for journals like Theory and Society and Organization Studies.
