Giovanni Di Lorenzo

Giovanni Di Lorenzo is an Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science at Sapienza University of Rome. He serves as Vice Dean of the Faculty of Political Science, Sociology, and Communication at Sapienza University of Rome since 2015. His academic work focuses on private law, civil law, and related fields within the political science context.

Professor Di Lorenzo holds the following educational qualifications:

• Dottore di ricerca (PhD) in "diritto privato e garanzie costituzionali" (Private Law and Constitutional Guarantees) from the University of Padua, 2002

Professor Di Lorenzo's research primarily focuses on private law, civil law, and related legal frameworks. His work spans several specialized areas including family law, inheritance law, consumer protection, and digital data regulation. His scholarship demonstrates a consistent focus on how legal institutions adapt to social and technological changes while maintaining core principles of justice and fairness. Recent publications show increasing attention to digital age challenges, particularly in data protection and privacy law, while maintaining his foundational work in traditional civil law areas like succession and family law.

Professor Di Lorenzo has held various teaching positions at Sapienza University of Rome. Since the 2016/17 academic year, he has taught "Consumer Law" at the Faculty of Political Science, Sociology, and Communication. From 2012/13 to 2016/17, he taught "Family Law," and from 2012/13 to 2015/16, he taught "Community Agricultural Law." He is currently teaching "Private Law Institutions" and co-teaching "Rights and Security in the Digital Age" for the 2024/25 academic year. Additionally, he has served as a research fellow at LUISS – Guido Carli Law Faculty from 2005/06 to 2009/10. He serves on the editorial boards of "Diritto delle successioni e delle Persone," "Nuovo Diritto Civile," and "Diritto d'internet," and participates in the review committee for journals such as "Nomos" and "Federalismi."

Professor Di Lorenzo is a practicing attorney ("Avvocato del Foro di Roma") since 2004, which complements his academic work with practical legal experience. His current research projects include "Relationships between private individuals and the health emergency," "Crisis and civil responsibility," and "Recent perspectives on the revision of property law in the civil code."
