Giorgio de Marchis is a Full Professor of Portuguese, Brazilian, and Lusophone Literatures at Roma Tre University, affiliated with the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures. Since 2016, he has held this position while also serving as Deputy Rector, coordinating the University’s Working Group on Orientation (GLOA) and orientation/tutoring activities. He directs two academic chairs: the Camões, I.P. 'José Saramago' Chair and the 'Agostinho Neto' Chair for Angolan Studies.
De Marchis earned his PhD in Iberian Studies from the University of Bologna. He joined Roma Tre University in 2008 and led the Department of Foreign Languages, Literatures, and Cultures from December 2017 to October 2024. During this period, he was a member of the Academic Senate and chaired its Teaching Committee (April 2023–October 2024). He maintains affiliations with the Cultural Council of the Eça de Queiroz Foundation and co-founded the Italian Association of Portuguese and Brazilian Studies (AISPEB), having served in its leadership.
His research examines contemporary literary and cultural phenomena across the Lusophone world, particularly in Portugal, Brazil, and Angola. With over 150 publications, his work analyzes cross-cultural dynamics and postcolonial narratives. He has taught as a Visiting Professor at institutions in Portugal and Brazil.
