Giorgio Tagliaferro is an Associate Professor in the Department of History of Art at the University of Warwick, Faculty of Arts. He is actively involved in research and teaching, serving as Director of Research and Coordinator of the Venice Programme. His academic career began at Università Ca' Foscari in Venice, where he earned his BA, MA, and PhD, and served as a lecturer from 2004 to 2010. He has held visiting and research positions at Charles University in Prague and collaborated with Emerson College’s European Centre in the Netherlands.
His research focuses on Renaissance and Early Modern Italian art, especially Venetian visual culture, artists’ workshops, patronage, and the display of power. He has published extensively on Titian, Tintoretto, and Veronese, exploring themes of artistic identity, composition, and political symbolism. His work is supported by prestigious awards including a Leverhulme Research Fellowship and a British Academy Small Grant, and he was a Scholar in Residence at the Getty Research Institute.
The recent publications reflect a deep engagement with Venetian artistic geography, workshop practices, and the ideological functions of public art. His research often bridges art theory, historical context, and visual analysis, with a focus on how art mediated political and religious identities in early modern Venice.

Giorgio Tagliaferro supervises postgraduate research and teaches modules on Venetian art, the Renaissance, and art historical methodology. He leads the 'Art in Italy 1200–1700' research cluster at Warwick and contributes to the Centre for the Study of the Renaissance. His collaborative projects and editorial work highlight his role as a central figure in current scholarship on Italian Renaissance art.
He is involved in major research initiatives, including studies on the Doge’s Palace and the visual culture of the Venetian Republic, and continues to publish in leading journals and exhibition catalogs. His work is deeply interdisciplinary, connecting art history with political theory, urban studies, and religious history.
