Gino Lavoie is a Full Professor in the Department of Chemistry at York University, part of the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on catalyst design, ligand development, and polymer chemistry, addressing challenges in the production of high-performance materials. He holds a BSc (Honors) in Chemistry from McGill University (1991), a PhD from MIT (1995), and completed a postdoctoral fellowship at UC–Berkeley (1996–1997). Prior to academia, he worked at Eastman Chemical Company, contributing to over 25 world and U.S. patents.
His research group investigates transition metal complexes for catalyzing inert molecules (e.g., dinitrogen, CO₂) and polymerization processes, emphasizing greener solvents and ligand design. Collaborations with computational chemists enhance understanding of catalyst mechanisms. The Lavoie Lab’s work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly climate action and responsible consumption.
