Jakub Hyvl is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, where he joined the faculty in August 2017 after supporting Matt Cain's main group chemistry research since 2015.
His educational background includes:
- M.Sc. (Ing.) in Chemistry from University of Pardubice, Czech Republic (2007)
- Ph.D. in Chemistry from University of Chemistry and Technology in Prague, Czech Republic (2011)
Dr. Hyvl's research centers on Organic Chemistry with emphasis on Catalysis and Synthetic Chemistry. His work spans synthesis of chiral catalysts, reactivity of organic disulfides with transition metals, mass spectrometry applications, and development of metathesis catalysts and ROMP polymers. He maintains active collaboration within Matt Cain's research group focusing on main group chemistry.
Prior to Hawaii, he conducted postdoctoral research at the Institute of Organic Chemistry and Biochemistry of the Czech Academy of Sciences (mass spectrometry) and MIT (metathesis catalysts under Nobel laureate Dick Schrock), building expertise in synthetic methodologies and polymer science.
