Gina Kusuma is a Research Fellow at the Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Monash University, and a Research Scientist at the Hudson Institute of Medical Research. She joined the Amnion Cell Biology Laboratory under A/Prof Rebecca Lim in 2017, focusing on clinical-scale production of extracellular vesicles and bioengineering paracrine signaling for therapeutic applications.
- PhD in Stem Cell Biology, University of Melbourne (2015)
Her research integrates Biomaterials and Stem Cell Biology to explore how Extracellular Vesicles and MicroRNA Signaling can enhance Regenerative Medicine approaches. She has pioneered work on substrate stiffness tuning for liver disease and cell-free therapies for vascular regeneration.
Recent publications highlight trends in Extracellular Vesicle Potency across 2D/3D culture systems, Mesenchymal Stem Cell Applications in perinatal lung disease, and Bioprocessing Optimization for clinical scalability. A key innovation involves leveraging Mechanotransduction principles to maximize therapeutic outcomes.
Scientific Awards:
- Arthur Nyulasy Prize (2020)
- CASS Foundation Travel Award (2017)
- Hudson Institute Postdoctoral Travel Award (2018)
- ISEV Young Investigator Scholarship (2018)
- Victoria Fellowship (2019)
As Associate Editor for Frontiers in Pharmacology (2019–present), she contributes to editorial peer-review. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals in health and innovation.
