Gina Garland serves as a Group Leader within the Professorship for Soil Resources at ETH Zurich, Switzerland, focusing on sustainable soil management and agricultural systems research.
Her research centers on soil-microbial-plant interactions in agroecosystems, with key interests including:
- Nutrient cycling dynamics
- Bioavailability of nutrients and micropollutants
- Impact of agricultural practices on soil functioning
- Environmental sustainability in food production
- Biogeochemical processes for crop yield improvement
- Antibiotic effects from excreta-derived fertilizers
Currently leading a five-year SNSF-Prima funded project on antibiotics in human excreta fertilizers, she investigates soil-microbial-plant nexus impacts to advance food security solutions. Her work directly addresses global challenges in sustainable agriculture and community livelihoods through evidence-based biogeochemical research.
