Dr. Gina Cavan is a Senior Lecturer in GIS and Climate at Manchester Metropolitan University, specializing in urban nature-based solutions, climate resilience, and geospatial science. She leads initiatives in personal development and Athena Swan within her department and serves as a Panel Member of the UKRI Interdisciplinary Assessment College. Her roles include Editorial Board membership for PLOS Climate and the Journal of Maps, and she has held an International Fellowship at KU Leuven University's Leuven Institute for Advanced Study (LIAS).
Her research focuses on urban ecosystems, climate adaptation planning, and interdisciplinary approaches using GIS. Notable projects include NERC-funded studies on climate resilient action through playful learning and domestic gardens' role in urban ecosystem services. She has supervised multiple PhDs addressing topics like green infrastructure planning in sub-Saharan Africa, mangrove forest monitoring, and brownfield ecosystem services.
