Manuel Gimenes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Poitiers, affiliated with the Center for Research on Cognition and Learning (CeRCA) and the Maison des Sciences de l’Homme et de la Société (MSHS). His research bridges cognitive psychology and psycholinguistics, focusing on reading processes, lexical frequency effects, and the cognitive impact of games.
His research interests include visual word recognition, lexical frequency, reading development, and the role of games (board and video) in enhancing cognitive functions. He also investigates motor skills and literacy, rhythm and language, and metacognition in writing. His work often integrates digital tools and game-based interventions to support learning.
The trends in his recent publications highlight a strong focus on educational applications of cognitive science, particularly in child literacy, with a growing emphasis on digital interventions, motor-cognitive integration, and language development tools. His research combines experimental psychology with applied educational technology.
Manuel Gimenes has supervised PhD students including Léa Martinez and Evan Launay. He holds administrative roles as co-director of the Bachelor's Degree in Psychology at the University of Poitiers and secretary of the ethics committee for human research at the universities of Tours and Poitiers. He also manages and coordinates CeRCA’s “Game” research group, fostering interdisciplinary projects on gaming and cognition.
His leadership extends to developing research infrastructure, such as lexical databases (e.g., Worldlex, Lexique-Infra, VOC-ADO) and assessment tools (e.g., BLOC test, ProVoc app), which are widely applicable in psycholinguistics and neuropsychology.
