Gillina Bezemer is an Education Development Officer in the Faculty of Science at Utrecht University, focusing on interdisciplinary teaching and honors education. She holds part-time roles as a guest researcher at the Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), investigating Toll-like receptors in respiratory diseases, and as Program Leader for the UU Honors College’s interdisciplinary graduate program. Her research spans COPD, immunology, and nutrition’s impact on lung health, with notable work on TLR9 in COVID-19 pathogenesis and synbiotic therapies. She has authored over 20 peer-reviewed articles, including studies on preclinical models of lung disease and viral immunology. Beyond academia, she founded Impact Station (a research consultancy) and contributes to the CIAO project modeling SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis via adverse outcome pathways.
Her expertise includes grant writing, transdisciplinary research coordination, and educational innovation. She advises on life sciences innovations and COPD mechanisms, leveraging her dual role in education and pharmaceutical sciences research.
