Gillian Terrett is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at the School of Behavioural and Health Sciences (Faculty of Health Sciences). Her research focuses on emotion processing, prospective memory, addiction neuroanatomy, and psychopathology. She has contributed to studies on amygdala subregions, social anxiety disorder, and the cognitive effects of substances like alcohol and cannabis.
Her work frequently involves neuroimaging techniques and collaborations within the ENIGMA Addiction Working Group. Notable studies include investigations into hippocampal subregion volumes in cannabis dependence and the neural correlates of social anxiety disorder. Terrett has also explored age-related changes in emotion regulation and prospective memory across developmental stages, including in clinical populations such as youth with borderline personality disorder.
Her research trends emphasize translational studies linking neurobiological mechanisms to behavioral outcomes in mental health and addiction. She has published extensively in journals like Human Brain Mapping, Psychopharmacology, and Journal of Experimental Child Psychology.
