Gillian Sneed serves as Assistant Professor and Area Coordinator of Art History in the School of Art and Design at San Diego State University. She earned her PhD in art history from the Graduate Center at The City University of New York, where she was a 2018-19 Lost & Found Archival Research Fellow.
Her research centers on feminist art histories of the Americas across the 20th and 21st centuries, with emphasis on archival recovery of women artists' contributions. She specializes in intersections of poetry and visual art, ecological themes, and socio-political contexts within American art movements, particularly examining how feminist networks operated in the 1970s.
Dr. Sneed's publication output demonstrates consistent focus on recovering marginalized voices, exemplified by her 2022 edited volume of Mayer correspondence which bridges literary and visual art scholarship. Her work reveals trends in feminist archival methodologies and transnational artistic dialogues within the Americas.
She has been honored with the 2018-19 Lost & Found Archival Research Fellowship. Additional recognition includes invitations to present at university-sponsored events such as her 2022 book launch and the 2018 'Super/Natural' symposium on ecologies in American art.
No information is available regarding student advising, grant funding beyond her fellowship, or dedicated research laboratories. Her professional activities center on archival scholarship and public academic engagement through lectures and symposia.
