Gillian Mitchell

Dr Gillian Mitchell is a Senior Lecturer at the School of History, University of St Andrews. Her research focuses on North American Folk Revival (1900-1970) and British/North American popular music and culture post-1945. She explores topics like media representation, social class impacts, and generational dynamics. Mitchell’s work bridges music history, cultural studies, and social history, with publications analyzing rock 'n' roll’s moral reception, parental responses to music, and intergenerational relations.

Her research outputs include books like *Adult Responses to Popular Music and Intergenerational Relations in Britain, c.1955-1975* (2019) and *The British National Daily Press and Popular Music, c.1956-1975* (2019).
