Gillian Evans is a Professor in Social Anthropology at the University of Manchester. Her research focuses on post-industrial Britain, social class, education, urban regeneration, and multiculturalism. She holds a PhD from Brunel University and has conducted extensive ethnographic studies, including a groundbreaking analysis of London's Olympic Legacy. She currently teaches courses on childhood education and political anthropology.
Her work has generated national debates, notably through her monograph Educational Failure and Working Class White Children in Britain (2006), which critiqued societal perceptions of white working-class communities. She later explored the Olympic Legacy project, offering unique insights into urban planning processes in East London. Her research also addresses Brexit's socio-political implications and contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to urban sustainability and cultural inclusivity.
