Gilles Tissot is a Research Professor at the French National Institute for Research in Digital Science and Technology (INRIA), working in the Odyssey team at the Rennes center. He is also associated with LAUM (Laboratoire d'Acoustique de l'Université du Mans), which is part of Le Mans Université. His research focuses on bridging model-driven and observation-driven paradigms to develop novel stochastic representations of ocean dynamics, with particular emphasis on mesoscale/submesoscale processes and internal waves.
His educational background includes:
- Post-doc in Acoustics at Laboratoire d'Acoustique de l'Université du Mans (2017-2018)
- Post-doc in Applied mathematics and fluid mechanics at Institut de Mathématiques de Toulouse (2016-2017)
- Post-doc in Fluid mechanics and aeroacoustics at Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica, Brazil (2014-2015)
- Ph.D. in Fluids Mechanics at Institut Pprime (2010-2014)
- Engineer school in Aeronautics mechanical engineering at ENSMA (2007-2010)
Tissot's research interests center on turbulent flow modeling, reduced-order modeling, and data assimilation. He is particularly focused on using the Koopman operator and reproducing kernel Hilbert spaces for ensemble data assimilation in geophysical flows. His work on stochastic modeling aims to predict and extract wave solutions in turbulent flows, with applications spanning turbulence, aeroacoustics, and geophysics. A significant portion of his recent research addresses the loss of coherence of internal tidal waves in the ocean due to interactions between waves and currents, developing reduced-order modeling techniques to model and estimate the incoherent field.
His publication record demonstrates a strong focus on the intersection of fluid dynamics, oceanography, and advanced mathematical techniques. The articles show a consistent progression toward more sophisticated approaches for modeling complex fluid systems, particularly in ocean dynamics. Key themes include stochastic modeling of wave-turbulence interactions, data assimilation methods using reproducing kernel spaces, and analysis of internal tidal wave coherence loss in ocean environments.
Tissot is an active member of the FLUMINANCE research group at INRIA, which specializes in the study of methods for the measurement, analysis, and control of fluid flows from image sequences. The group's work spans three main themes: characterization of fluid flow from images, coupling dynamical models with image data, and control and optimization of turbulent flows. His research contributes significantly to the group's objectives in understanding geophysical flows and experimental fluid mechanics.
