Gilles Grimaître

Gilles Grimaître is an Associate Lecturer at the Lucerne School of Music (HSLU) within the Institute of New Music, Composition and Theory. He is a pianist, keyboardist, composer, performer, and curator based in Biel, Switzerland. His artistic work emphasizes collaboration with composers and artists across visual arts, literature, and performing arts. He performs internationally with ensembles such as Collegium Novum Zürich, Ensemble Modern, and Ensemble Proton. He co-founded HYPER DUO with percussionist Julien Mégroz, focusing on transcending stylistic boundaries.

Educated at the Bern University of the Arts, he studied piano under Pierre Sublet, organ with Pascale Van Coppenolle, and composition with Xavier Dayer. He was a scholarship holder at the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt (2013–2014). Key achievements include winning the Nicati Competition 2013 for contemporary music interpretation and a 2022 residency in South India to study Karnatic music with Vidwan B R Somashekar Jois and 'Ghatam' Dr. S. Karthick.

Research interests span interdisciplinary collaboration, electroacoustic music, and the fusion of improvisation with structured composition. His compositional style blends immersive soundscapes, complex structures, and Art Brut influences. HYPER DUO's debut album 'Indigne de nous' (2021) on Everest Records showcases these explorations.
