Dr. Gilles Diercks is a Pathologist at the Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Groningen. He holds a Medical Degree from VU Medical Center Amsterdam (1995) and completed his residency in Pathology at UMCG (2009). He obtained his PhD in 2004 with a thesis on 'Microalbuminuria as a cardiovascular risk indicator.' His primary expertise lies in dermatopathology, with special focus on immunofluorescence and electron microscopy of the skin. He also contributes to cardiovascular pathology and soft tissue tumor research.
Research Interests: Gilles Diercks investigates dermatopathology with emphasis on molecular diagnostics, genetic mutations in skin disorders, and advanced imaging techniques. His work integrates genomic analysis (DNA methylation, copy number alterations) to classify tumors and improve diagnostic accuracy in conditions like epidermolysis bullosa and gastrointestinal stromal tumors.
Collaborations & Grants: He participates in national/international research groups on dermatopathology and has contributed to studies on fibro-osseous tumors and systemic rheumatic diseases' placental pathology.
Labs/Teams: Active member of the Pathology Department at UMCG, collaborating with interdisciplinary teams in oncology, genetics, and immunology.
