Gilda Zazzara is an Associate Professor of Contemporary History at the Department of Humanities, Ca' Foscari University of Venice. She serves as President of the Joint Commission of Teachers and Students and Alternate Representative of the Single University Guarantee Committee (CUG). Her research focuses on labor history, deindustrialization, working-class cultures, and environmental implications of industrial decline. She co-leads the international DePOT project and coordinates the journal «Venetica». Recent publications include studies on Porto Marghera’s deindustrialization and worker environmentalism. She collaborates internationally, including visiting roles at the University of Kent and Birkbeck, University of London.
Research Interests:
- Labor history in contemporary Italy, emphasizing working-class formation and trade unions.
- Deindustrialization processes and their political/social/environmental impacts.
- Oral history and autobiographical sources in studying marginalized groups.
- Environmental dimensions of labor, including just transition and worker activism.
Recent Publications Trends: Focused on deindustrialization’s cultural and social legacies, labor-environment intersections, and micro-histories of Veneto’s trade unions. Engages with transnational and comparative frameworks.
Grants/Projects: Co-investigator in DePOT (Deindustrialization in Post-Industrial Societies), funded by international grants. Collaborates with Iveser (Venetian Institute for Resistance History).
Labs/Teams: Coordinates Venetica journal. Active in editorial roles for Labor History Review and Il De Martino.
