Gilda L. Ochoa is a Professor of Chicana/o-Latina/o Studies and Sociology at Pomona College, where she has been teaching since 1997. She also serves as the Intercollegiate Department Chair of Chicana/o-Latina/o Studies at The Claremont Colleges.
Research Interests focus on educational inequalities, race/ethnic relations, immigration, and community-engaged scholarship. Her work critically examines academic profiling, racialized tracking in schools, and intersectional approaches to ethnic studies. She has written extensively on Latina/o-Asian American educational dynamics and community partnerships.
Recent Articles highlight her commitment to qualitative, community-based research spanning topics like transgenerational learning, sanctuary movements, educational justice, and critical pedagogy. This aligns with her broader anti-deficit framework challenging dominant narratives about race and education.
Scientific Awards include multiple Haynes Foundation Fellowships, the Wig Distinguished Professorship, ASA Book Awards, and the American Sociological Association Minority Fellowship. Notably, her book Academic Profiling received interdisciplinary recognition for eradicating racism.
Teaching & Service emphasizes interactive learning and university-high school collaborations. She co-edited Latino Los Angeles and has been recognized for community-embedded pedagogy bridging academia and grassroots activism.
