Gilat Levy

Gilat Levy is a Professor of Economics at the Department of Economics, London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He holds expertise in Microeconomic Theory, Political Economy, and Law and Economics. His research focuses on political social learning, polarization dynamics, correlation neglect in decision-making, and the role of religion in economic behavior. He currently serves as the STICERD Theory Group Programme Co-Director at LSE.

Levy earned his PhD in Economics from Princeton University. His work spans theoretical and applied economics, addressing issues such as democratic institutions, public policy, and institutional design.

His research interests include analyzing how information diffusion, voter behavior, and institutional frameworks shape economic and political outcomes. Notable contributions include studies on polarization cycles, the recurrence of populism, and the impact of religious beliefs on cooperation and effort.

Levy teaches EC476 (Contracts and Organisations) and EC540 (Political Economy) at LSE. His research has been published in top journals such as the American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Political Science, and Journal of Economic Theory.

He collaborates frequently with scholars like Ronny Razin, exploring topics such as forecasting methods under ambiguity, persuasion mechanisms, and the co-evolution of segregation and discrimination. His work bridges microeconomic theory with real-world political and social phenomena.
