Gil Zamora is an Adjunct Professor at the University of New England, specializing in forensic eyewitness interviews and cognitive evidence. He holds a Master’s in Education from San José State University and a Bachelor’s in Behavioral Sciences from National University.
Prior to academia, he served as a Police Artist for the largest Silicon Valley police agency, interviewing over 3,000 eyewitnesses and contributing to high-profile criminal investigations. His forensic sketches led to hundreds of suspect identifications, and he has testified as an expert witness.
Zamora is a member of the International Association for Identification (Forensic Art discipline) and pioneered the Real Beauty Sketches campaign (2013), which highlighted self-perception through forensic art techniques. The campaign’s video garnered over 100 million views globally.
He spoke at Talks at Harvard (2018) on forensic artist best practices and eyewitness memory contamination. He also served on the Santa Clara County Grand Jury (2015–2016), leading a report on mental health services in detention centers.
In 2023, he authored The Mindful Interview Method: Retrieving Cognitive Evidence, a seminal work on improving eyewitness reliability in criminal justice contexts.
