University of California, San Franciscoمعرفی
Dr. Gil Rabinovici is a Professor in the Department of Neurology at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine. He leads the PET program at the UCSF Memory & Aging Center and serves as the Associate Director of the UCSF Alzheimer's Disease Center, where he also Co-Leads the ADRC Administrative and Imaging Cores. Nationally, he serves as Study Chair for the Imaging Dementia-Evidence for Amyloid Scanning (IDEAS) study and as co-PI and PET Core Director for the Longitudinal Early-Onset Alzheimer's Disease Study (LEADS).
Dr. Rabinovici's research focuses on utilizing multi-modal neuroimaging techniques and biomarkers to improve early detection and diagnostic accuracy in dementia and to study mechanisms of neurodegenerative diseases. His work emphasizes advancing understanding of heterogeneous neurodegenerative disorders through novel molecular imaging tools with the goal of developing personalized care and tailored treatments for people with cognitive decline. The Rabinovici Lab (RABLab) has collaborated closely for more than a decade with Dr. Bill Jagust's group at UC Berkeley/Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory to bring cutting-edge molecular imaging techniques to diverse patient cohorts.
Analysis of Dr. Rabinovici's recent publications reveals a strong focus on amyloid and tau PET imaging, early detection strategies for Alzheimer's disease, and the application of neuroimaging biomarkers in both clinical practice and drug development. His work spans from basic mechanisms of neurodegeneration to large-scale implementation studies like IDEAS, demonstrating a translational research approach that bridges laboratory discoveries with clinical applications.
Dr. Rabinovici actively mentors students and researchers, with recent successes including Marlene's Master's thesis defense. His lab continues to produce significant publications, with July 2025 seeing new research output. The RABLab's collaborative approach with UC Berkeley has accelerated drug development while improving patient care through advanced imaging techniques.
Dr. Rabinovici leads the In Vivo Molecular Neuroimaging Lab (RABLab) at UCSF, which focuses on applying novel PET tracers along with structural and functional MRI to a broad spectrum of neurodegenerative diseases. The lab's work spans clinical applications, methodological development, and mechanistic studies of dementia.
