Dr. Gil Lee is a Professor of Electrical Engineering at the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD), affiliated with the Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. He holds a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from North Carolina State University (1987), with prior degrees from Kyungpook National University. His research focuses on semiconductor materials, carbon nanotube applications, energy storage systems, and sensor technologies. Notable projects include developing carbon nanotube-based flexible conductive films for touch screens and gas sensors, as well as lithium-ion battery advancements.
Research Interests:
- Carbon nanotube synthesis and applications (gas sensors, transparent heaters, strain sensors)
- Lithium-ion and lithium-air battery technologies
- Infrared sensing and material characterization
- Functional coatings (NiO, palladium nanoparticles) for enhanced sensor performance
Awards include the IEEE EAB Meritorious Achievement Award for Informal Education (2014) and the Tech Titans Community Hero Award (2015). He founded IntelliChoice, a nonprofit tutoring program in underserved Dallas-Fort Worth communities. Professional roles span academia and industry, including consulting for Optek Technology and adjunct roles at Louisiana State University.
Key grants include a $900,000 KITECH project for carbon nanotube growth and a $60,000 COSAR grant for semiconductor etcher development. He has advised multiple research projects, including gas-sensing nanotube sheets and UV nanoimprint molds.
