Gianpiero Vigani is a Professor in the Department of Life Sciences and Systems Biology at the University of Turin, specializing in plant physiology (SSD: BIO/04). His academic work focuses on teaching and research in plant physiological processes, with particular emphasis on mineral nutrition, photosynthesis mechanisms, and plant-environment interactions.
Professor Vigani's research interests span multiple areas of plant physiology including:
- Plant mineral nutrition and biofortification
- Photosynthesis mechanisms (C3, C4, CAM pathways)
- Plant hormone signaling and organogenesis
- Plant secondary metabolites and defense mechanisms
- Water relations and transpiration processes
- Plant responses to environmental stressors
As an educator, Professor Vigani teaches Plant Physiology (SVB0027) in the Biological Sciences program at the University of Turin, along with specialized courses in plant eco-physiology, mineral nutrition, and science communication. His teaching emphasizes both theoretical knowledge and practical laboratory skills, with mandatory laboratory sessions focusing on techniques for analyzing chlorophyll, secondary metabolites, and plant responses to light. The course consists of 52 hours of theoretical lectures and 30 hours of mandatory laboratory exercises.
Professor Vigani is actively involved in academic service, serving on multiple committees including the Master's Degree Program Council for Plant Biotechnology, the Teaching Commission, the Orientation Commission, the Third Mission Commission, the Department Council, and quality assurance working groups for Environmental Biology programs. He also participates in the Didactic Coordination and Thesis Proposal Committee for Environmental Biology.
