Gianluca Demartini

Dr. Gianluca Demartini is a Senior Lecturer in Data Science at the University of Queensland's School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Leibniz University of Hanover in 2011, specializing in Semantic Search. His research focuses on integrating human intelligence with computational systems.

Research interests span three core areas:

• Information Retrieval: Developing advanced methods for accessing and analyzing large-scale data
• Semantic Web: Enhancing data interoperability and meaning representation
• Human Computation: Designing crowd-powered systems for complex problem-solving

His work has received funding from the EU H2020 framework and UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).

Significant recognitions include:

• Best Paper Award at AAAI HCOMP (2018)
• Best Paper Award at ECIR (2016)
• Best Demo Award at ISWC (2011)
• ACM Distinguished Speaker designation (2015-present)
