Gian Michele Ratto

Gian Michele Ratto is a Tenured Scientist at the Neuroscience Institute in Padua, Italy. He has held academic positions at institutions including the Institute of Neuroscience in Pisa, Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa, and the University of Padua. His work bridges physics, neuroscience, and molecular biology, with a focus on translational and clinical neuroscience.

His research explores how circadian rhythms regulate fast synaptic inhibition and neuronal activity in both physiological conditions and murine models of autism. He utilizes advanced tools such as genetically encoded sensors and multielectrode in vivo electrophysiology. Formerly, he directed the in vivo physiology lab at the Institute of Nanoscience CNR until 2022.

Over 15 years, he supervised 12 PhD students and 34 master's theses at Scuola Normale Superiore, with many alumni now holding academic positions globally, including at Harvard University, Columbia University, and Max Planck Institute.
