Giacomo Palmieri

Prof. Giacomo Palmieri is an Associate Professor in the Department of Industrial Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (DIISM) at the Polytechnic University of Marche, Italy. He serves as Scientific Director of the robotics section of the i-Labs Industry Laboratory, focusing on Industry 4.0 technologies. His academic career includes roles as a researcher at eCampus University (2010–2016) and DIISM (2016–2019) before his current position. He holds a Mechanical Engineering degree (2006) and PhD (2010) from the Polytechnic University of Marche.

His research focuses on collaborative robotics, human-robot interaction, mechatronics, biomechanics, and kinematic/dynamic analysis. He has authored over 90 publications, including 43 in international journals. He chairs Robotics’ Topical Advisory Panel for MDPI, overseeing collaborative robotics, mechatronics, and biomechanics.

Teaching responsibilities include Industrial Robotics (Master’s in Mechanical Engineering), Theoretical Mechanics (Bachelor’s in Biomedical Engineering), and Biomechanics modules in Medicine & Surgery programs. He authored foundational textbooks: Fundamentals of Mechanics and Biomechanics of Movement (2016) and Introduction to the Biomechanics of Sport (2018).

His lab (i-Labs Industry) develops Industry 4.0 solutions, emphasizing human-centric automation and exoskeletons. Research trends include obstacle avoidance algorithms, collaborative assembly systems, and ergonomic evaluation methods for industrial robots.

Key contributions include robotic polishing systems for luxury goods, AI-driven collision avoidance, and exoskeleton evaluation frameworks. His work bridges mechanical engineering, robotics, and biomechanics for practical industrial applications.
