Giacomo Benedetto

Giacomo Benedetto is a Professor and Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Budget Policy at Royal Holloway, University of London, holding this position since 2016. He serves as an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Government and Economics and specializes in EU budget policy, constitutional politics, Euroscepticism, and comparative democracy. His research includes studies on the EU’s institutional framework, parliamentary dynamics, and reform of revenue systems.

He teaches courses at BA and MSc levels on EU history, politics, comparative democracy, and public policy. Recently, he directed interdisciplinary BA programs in European Studies and advised the EU’s High-Level Group on Own Resources (2015–2016). Currently, he leads two research projects (2022–2025) focusing on EU crisis recovery and budget reforms.

He has supervised PhD candidate Dr Ana-Iuliana Postu (2015) and two ongoing students researching EU counter-corruption policy and barriers to the single services market. Awards include the prestigious Jean Monnet Chair. He actively organizes events like lectures on Brexit and Italy’s post-election challenges, reflecting his engagement with EU policy debates.
