Giacomo Benedetto

Giacomo Benedetto is an Associate Professor and Reader in the Department of Politics, International Relations and Philosophy at Royal Holloway, University of London. He holds the Jean Monnet Chair in European Union Budget Policy (2016–present) and serves as Associate Editor of the European Journal of Government and Economics. His research focuses on EU budgetary policy, institutional politics, and social democracy. Benedetto teaches courses on EU history, comparative democracy, and public policy, and has supervised multiple PhD students. He advises EU institutions on budget reforms and contributes to think tanks like the Centre for European Policy Studies.

Education: BA (University of Sussex), MSc and PhD (London School of Economics and Political Science). Research interests include EU fiscal frameworks, parliamentary dynamics, and Euroscepticism. Awards include the FRSA and Jean Monnet Chair appointment. He also served as External Examiner for King's College London's European Studies programmes (2017–2021).

Benedetto's consultancy work includes advising the EU's High Level Group on Own Resources and providing expert testimony to the European Parliament's Budgets Committee. His recent projects address post-Brexit EU budget adjustments and Next Generation EU fund transparency. Supervised PhD topics include EU counter-corruption policy and European market integration challenges.
