Ghislain Fourier is a Professor of Algebra and Representation Theory at the Department of Mathematics, RWTH Aachen University, a position he has held since 2018. Previously, he was a Professor for Pure Mathematics at Leibniz University Hannover (2016–2018) and a Lecturer for Pure Mathematics at the University of Glasgow (2013–2016). His academic journey includes a Habilitation (2013) and PhD (2007) from the University of Cologne, and a Diploma in Mathematics from Bergische University Wuppertal (2004).
- Education:
- Diploma in Mathematics, Bergische University Wuppertal, 2004
- PhD in Mathematics, University of Cologne, 2007
- Habilitation in Mathematics, University of Cologne, 2013
Research interests center on degenerations of varieties and modules, combinatorics of polytopes, and modules of generalized loop algebras. He explores connections between PBW filtrations, toric degenerations, and representation theory, with applications to quantum groups and tropical geometry.
Article trends span 2024 preprints on Gröbner bases, symplectic flag varieties, and polytopes, with 2023–2020 works on network coding, fusion products, and Schubert varieties. Collaborations with Xin Fang, Evgeny Feigin, and others emphasize algebraic structures and combinatorial methods.
Roles and Outreach: Deputy Speaker of the CRC/TRR 19 "Symbolic Tools in Mathematics and their Application," Treasurer of "Friends of Oberwolfach," and Patron of the "Syrischer Studierendenverein Aachen." Current research sabbatical at IMPA (2024).
