Ghislain Deslongchamps is a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of New Brunswick, specializing in organic chemistry, computational chemistry, and chemical education. His research focuses on computer-assisted molecular design, novel organocatalyst development, theoretical models for organic reactivity, and educational multimedia tools for teaching organic chemistry. Deslongchamps collaborates with Prof. Pierre Deslongchamps on the Bent Bonds/Antiperiplanar Hypothesis (BBAH), an innovative orbital model explaining molecular conformation and reactivity.
His research spans computational biosynthesis of alkaloids, enzyme characterization, and applications of the BBAH model to diverse organic reactions. Recent publications demonstrate advancements in understanding cytochrome P450 enzymes for alkaloid diversification and novel computational approaches for predicting radical stability and reaction pathways.
In chemical education, Deslongchamps developed Organic ChemWare—a collection of 234 interactive HTML5 animations integrated into the textbook Organic Chemistry – Mechanistic Patterns—which bridges static textbook imagery with dynamic molecular visualization.
