Dr. Ghalya Saadawi is a Senior Lecturer in Research Architecture at Goldsmiths, University of London, affiliated with the Visual Cultures department. She holds a BA in Psychology from the American University of Beirut, an MSc in Social Psychology from the London School of Economics, and a PhD in Sociology from Goldsmiths. Her research focuses on Marxist critical theory, human rights discourse critiques, intersections of law and psychoanalysis, and the role of art in political modernism. She is currently developing a book titled Between October and November (2025), exploring time, loss, and repetition under capitalist modernity. She also contributes to the Beirut Institute of Critical Analysis and Research (BICAR) and teaches at the Dutch Art Institute. Notable awards include the Fitzcarraldo Editions Essay Prize (2023) and a Mercator Fellowship (2018). Her recent work addresses hypochondria as a critical metaphor, Palestinian human rights discourse, and the socio-political dimensions of art protocols.
