Gertjan Willems is an Associate Professor at the University of Antwerp and a Visiting Professor at Ghent University. His research spans Belgian cinema, media and cultural identity, media and nation-building, film policy, and adaptation studies. He has published 3 books and 40+ peer-reviewed papers, curating film programs for festivals and institutions.

His recent publications focus on European film remakes, alternative cinema, and nationalist discourses in Flemish films.
