Professor Gerry Simpson is a Professor of Public International Law at the LSE Law School, part of the London School of Economics and Political Science. Previously, he held positions at the University of Melbourne (2007-2015), the Australian National University (1995-1998), and LSE (2000-2007), with visiting roles at NYU and Harvard. His expertise spans international law, war crimes, diplomacy, and nuclear issues.
Research interests include international law’s intersection with war, nuclear policy, and historical legal analysis. Notable works include Great Powers and Outlaw States (2004), Law, War and Crime (2007), and The Sentimental Life of International Law (2021). He is currently writing on the Cold War and nuclearism.
Professor Simpson has received the American Society of International Law’s Annual Prize for Creative Scholarship (2005) and is a Fellow of the British Academy. His academic contributions blend legal scholarship with interdisciplinary approaches to global governance and political theory.
