Gerry Marshall is a Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work at Queen's University Belfast. His research focuses on children and young people in care systems, particularly residential childcare and the application of immersive technologies in social work education. He is affiliated with the Centre for Technological Innovation, Mental Health and Education (TIME) and the Centre for Children's Rights.
His work spans observational studies in child welfare communication, foster care transitions, and VR-based training tools for social workers. Recent collaborations include projects with international partners on recognition theory and racism awareness in Northern Ireland. He actively participates in academic conferences and advisory roles, including the VITAL (Virtual Intelligent Training and Adaptive Learning) project.
Marshall has supervised doctoral research on recognition frameworks in residential care and contributed to policy-oriented publications on child protection systems in Ireland. His activities include hosting academic visitors, organizing workshops, and delivering CPD courses for practitioners.
