Gerrit Felsch is a doctoral researcher at the University of Freiburg, affiliated with the Cluster of Excellence livMatS (Freiburg Center for Interactive Materials and Bioinspired Technologies) within the Faculty of Engineering, Technology and Architecture. His research focuses on reconfigurable mechanical metamaterials, aiming to design materials capable of adapting their microstructure in response to external stimuli through numerical simulations, machine learning, and experimental methods. He is supervised by Dr. Viacheslav Slesarenko.
His research areas include Research Area B and C, with a particular emphasis on metamaterials' adaptivity and learning mechanisms. Key projects involve developing software agents to control material adaptation and addressing challenges such as manufacturing defects and anisotropy in architected materials.
Recent publications highlight contributions to generative models in metamaterial design, self-contact mechanics in metamaterials, and controlling auxetic properties via deep learning. He is actively involved in interdisciplinary collaborations, leveraging computational and experimental approaches to advance material science.
LivMatS provides a collaborative environment, with access to facilities like IDEASfactory@FIT, supporting his work. While no awards are explicitly mentioned, his research demonstrates significant engagement with cutting-edge topics in materials science and engineering.
