Prof. Dr. Gerhard Knieper is a Professor at the Department of Analysis, Faculty of Mathematics, Ruhr University Bochum. His research focuses on Riemannian Geometry, Geodesic Flows, Dynamical Systems, and Ergodic Theory. He leads the Gruppe Knieper, part of the Floer Center of Geometry, and contributes to projects like the SFB/TRR 191. His work explores geometric and dynamical properties of manifolds, with recent emphasis on negative curvature, entropy, and rigidity phenomena.
Publications highlight studies on geodesic flows, hyperbolic dynamics, and spectral geometry. Notable contributions include quantitative closing lemmas, entropy uniqueness, and geometric rigidity. Knieper’s research bridges differential geometry with topological dynamics, addressing questions in nonpositive curvature and asymptotic harmonic manifolds.
He advises researchers like Dr. Benjamin Schulz-Rosenberger and Jacobus de Pooter, and collaborates internationally. His work appears in top journals like Annals of Mathematics and Ergodic Theory and Dynamical Systems.
