Gereon Kopf is a Professor of Religion at Luther College, leading the Department of Religion. He concurrently serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies at the University of Iceland and holds a Research Fellowship at Tōyō University's International Institute for Philosophy. His academic journey includes a PhD and MA from Temple University. Kopf specializes in East Asian religions, Zen Buddhist philosophy, and global-critical approaches to religious and philosophical inquiry.

His research integrates Buddhist thought with contemporary philosophy, evident in works like Dao Companion to Japanese Buddhist Philosophy and contributions to Journal of Buddhist Philosophy. He has held research fellowships in Japan (Japan Foundation, JSPS) and taught at the University of Hong Kong and Saitama University. Current projects focus on 'multi-entry philosophy,' a non-essentialist framework for understanding identity and ethics.
As Principal Investigator for a 2020-2021 Wabash Center grant, he developed inclusive pedagogy strategies for philosophy of religion. His writings appear in Buddhistdoor.net and academic journals, emphasizing critical theory and global philosophical dialogue.
