Gerard Wegemer is a Professor of English at the University of Dallas and the founding director of the Center for Thomas More Studies since 2000. He specializes in early modern literature, focusing on Thomas More, Shakespeare, and Renaissance studies. Dr. Wegemer holds a PhD from the University of Notre Dame and has authored/co-edited numerous works, including Young Thomas More and the Arts of Liberty and The Essential Works of Thomas More. He co-edits Moreana, an international journal on Thomas More, and organizes annual conferences on More's life and works.
His research interests include Thomas More's political philosophy, early modern literature, and the intersection of law, ethics, and governance. Wegemer teaches interdisciplinary courses on Thomas More, Shakespeare, and the English Renaissance. He has supervised online concordances indexing all of More's works and contributes to scholarly discussions on More's legacy through articles and edited volumes.
Wegemer's academic contributions emphasize More's humanist ideals, civic responsibility, and moral integrity. His work bridges literary analysis, historical context, and philosophical inquiry to illuminate More's enduring relevance in modern discussions of statesmanship and ethical leadership.
