Gerard Kelly

Dr. Gerard Kelly is a Senior Lecturer (equivalent to Associate Professor) in Environmental Law at Queen's University Belfast's School of Law. His expertise spans climate law, environmental governance, and planning law. He is a Senior Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy and a member of the IUCN's World Commission on Environmental Law Climate Change Specialist Group.

Education: Holds a First Class LLB from Trinity College Dublin, BCL (Distinction) from Oxford, PhD from University College London, and a Diploma in Legal Medicine (Distinction). Admitted to multiple bars including New York, Ireland, and England/Wales.

Research focuses on climate governance, emissions trading schemes, and legal frameworks for sustainability. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals and advises on international climate policy coordination.

Awards include the League of European Research Universities Visiting Scholarship (2015) and the Julian Prize (2006). He actively participates in global legal networks and peer-review activities.

Teaching: Module coordinator for Equity (LLB) and leads a postgraduate Corporate Environmental Law module. Supervises doctoral students in climate governance and environmental law.
