Gerald Sim is an Associate Professor of Film and Media Studies at Florida Atlantic University's School of Communication & Multimedia Studies. He has held visiting fellowships at the Asia Research Institute and the Lee Kong Chian NUS-Stanford Fellowship on Contemporary Southeast Asia. His research focuses on postcolonial cinema, algorithmic culture, and media theory.

His work examines the intersection of cinema with postcolonial politics, digital infrastructure, and technological discourse. Key publications include Screening Big Data (2024) and Postcolonial Hangups in Southeast Asian Cinema (2020). He explores themes like techno-Orientalism, data visualization in film, and Singaporean urban aesthetics through close textual analysis and media historiography.
Recent projects analyze AI representation in cinema and the cultural implications of algorithmic systems. His work has been supported by grants from the Luce Foundation and the Lee Kong Chian Fellowship program.
