Dr. Gerald McDermott is Professor and Department Chair of International Business at the University of South Carolina's Darla Moore School of Business. He holds a PhD from MIT and BA from Middlebury College, with previous appointments at Wharton School and international institutions.
His research examines how societies build innovative capacities through institutional development and network restructuring, with fieldwork in Eastern Europe and Latin America. Central themes include transnational regulatory integration, firm upgrading in emerging markets, and political foundations of industrial networks.
Recent publications explore innovation in emerging economies, public-private institutions for development, and regulatory frameworks in global trade. His research is characterized by comparative institutional analysis across diverse economic systems.
