He teaches studio practice elements in Fine Art courses (Art 100, Art 260/360) and supervises MA and PhD students exploring drawing's interdisciplinary potential. His research focuses on social, spatial, and contested environments through visual art, often mixing architectural and crowd dynamics with themes of institutional control and environmental change.

Notable residencies include Durham Cathedral (1987/88) and the Fulbright Scholarship-funded study at Purdue University (1990/91). Projects such as Artist's Notebooks and Caves push drawing into speculative territories. Collaborations include the Visual Intelligences (V.I.) project, funded by AHRC/HEFCE, which explores material/technological intersections in art.
